  1. Do Not Leave the Lint Trap Unclean
  2. All too often, we see people cleaning the lint trap “once in a while.” Even when they intend to clean it more often, this sometimes turns into a habit and it is forgotten about. There are many reasons to clean out the lint trap. Most importantly, when the lint screen is full it can be a fire hazard and can result in poor energy efficiency.
  3. Do Not Forget to Check the Venting Tube
  4. You do need to clean out the lint trap regularly but you should also ensure that your venting tubes do not have debris clogs. This should be done a few times a year. Remember that these tubes allow heat to get out of the dryer and your laundry room. In extreme cases of clogging, dangerous situations are possible – including fire.
  5. Do Not Let Your Dryer Stand on Uneven Ground
  6. Your dryer needs to be level in order to function well. If you are not sure if the floor below your dryer is level, use a leveling device. If you find that it is not, then you need to check the manual for your washer to learn how to adjust the feet of your dryer. When it’s in a more stable position, it will work better and last longer.
  7. Do Not Use Too Many Dryer Sheets
  8. We’ve seen many people make the blanket statement that dryer sheets are not safe to use in dryers. This is far from true. However, if you use too many dryer sheets, you could be causing an issue. This occurs when too many sheets are used at a time and the very chemicals that are supposed to soften the fabric leave behind a residue – which leads to clogs. Use only one sheet per load and wipe down the inside of your dryer once in a while.
  9. Do Not Install Your Dryer in Too Small of a Space
  10. If you have found a small broom closet or another area that barely fits your dryer, we are sorry to say that it does not actually fit your dryer at all. Your dryer needs room to allow air to circulate. If it is in too small a space, you run the risk of fire or malfunction.
